2.7 Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
With magnetic resonance imaging the body is also imaged slice by slice, but using a strong magnetic field instead of the X-ray beams used in computed tomography. Therefore before such an examination, all metallic objects (jewellery, spectacles, hearing aid, credit cards, etc.) must be removed. Patients wearing a pacemaker or metallic implants in the body such as plates, screws and nails should definitely let the medical personnel know in advance.
